Kaylie Gonzalez Reflection

Kaylie Gonzalez Reflection When I first heard we’d be doing group presentations, I didn’t know what to expect. Part of me was nervous—public speaking has never been something I feel completely comfortable with. But another part of me was curious, because this assignment wasn’t just about presenting; it was about learning how to present. On top of that, it was on Zoom instead of in person. Presenting from home felt less intimidating, but it also brought its own challenges. I had to think not only about what I was going to say but also about how to engage an audience through a screen. Even small things, like camera angle, lighting, and background, suddenly became part of the presentation process. Our group was assigned Chapters 4, 6, 7, and 8, and from the very beginning, Kayling took the lead in guiding us . I worked closely with her to create the presentation, making sure everyone added their parts to the slides and that the information flowed smoothly. I also helped polish the ...

Gayelle Presentation Reflection

Hello Everyone! I can vividly recall my very first impression when we had this group project for the first time. It was, Praise the Lord, the presentation will aid us in improving our presentation skills. I had thought that presenting in my house would be the easiest, considering I had no one in front of me, just me, my slides, and the laughter that I had prepared. Even in my own room, I was not prepared for the nerves. I was shaking, my hands were sweating, and it was just one of those events that I constantly worrying about messing up. Surprisingly, I have to say that the class was equally informative and I pondered over the ideas simply by listening to my peers almost as much as by presenting my own. It was quite an experience, every group had something to offer and collaborating as one helped tremendously. Team 1 : The Pillars of Public Speaking The Introduction of the Book (chapters 1,2, 3 and 5) were the blanket foundations of public speaking and I would say the team was very eff...

Jephte Nazaire's Reflection.

Working on the group project focused on developing and researching our topic helped me gain a better understanding of how to prepare, research, and organize a speech. I was in Group 2, and we covered Chapters 4, 6, 7, and 8. At the same time, the other three groups (Groups 1, 3, and 4) added important pieces to the bigger picture of public speaking, from brainstorming ideas to supporting them with research, to organizing speeches and delivering them effectively. Chapter4, we learned that every effective speech begins with a clear general purpose to inform, persuade, or celebrate an occasion. From there, it is narrowed down to a specific purpose, which is essentially a goal + topic. I found it useful that the slides emphasized sticking with one clear purpose supported by stories or examples. The brainstorming process was a major focus. It's not just about randomly coming up with ideas, but a methodical way to link personal interests, current events, or social issues with possible sp...

Kayling Mendez's Reflection

When I registered for this class, I thought it would be in person. I didn’t realize it was on Zoom until the day before—but I was actually grateful for that, since presenting online is much easier than presenting in person. I’m thankful for the technology that makes this all possible. This assignment was really cool because, as each person presented, we got to learn the basics of public speaking. I learned a lot from my group’s topics as we dove deep into the research. I also had the opportunity to connect with my group and take on a leadership role, which helped me step out of my comfort zone. Group One did a fantastic job with their presentations. They kept their speeches short and concise—straight to the point. I especially appreciated the great tips they shared on public speaking. Christopher mentioned that public speaking isn’t just for professional settings—it applies to everyday life, which makes everyone—even a small child—a public speaker. The breathing techniques and confiden...

Juseth Lopez's Reflection (Presentation for Chapters in the book)

Juseth Lopez's Reflection  When we started the group presentations, my initial reaction was like, "Thank God, we're doing a presentation that'll actually benefit us with tips for the next ones."  Presenting at home seemed less difficult in a way because I was relaxing at my own home and didn't have to present in front of everyone. However, even though it should've been less stressful, I was extremely anxious while I was presetting. The entire concept of screwing up or not being clear about my point continued to run through my mind. What really worked was observing my peers go ahead of me because it made me realize we're all learning together here and with each presentation things would improve. It's one thing to read through a chapter quietly and another to explain it to other people, even over computer screens. For me, presentations made my book seem more vibrant because each group had their unique style and illustrations to go with it. In retrosp...
